What is SWIFT Microwave therapy?
SWIFT Microwave therapy is a new non-invasive technology which uses microwave energy delivered through a probe which your podiatrist will apply to the area of skin infected with the affected wart tissue or fungal nail surface.
How does it work?
SWIFT works by introducing microwave energy into the skin, causing a heat shock to the affected wart tissue or fungal nail tissue which heats cells between 36 and 43 degree Celsius. This heat causes the wart to release proteins into the circulatory system which initiates an immune cascade that allows the body to attack the HPV virus or in the case of Fungal nails the heat can kill the fungus present.
Advantages of SWIFT over liquid nitrogen/acid etc:
1) No need for dressings, taping and/or keeping the foot dry
2) Able to undertake normal daily activities without much interruption
3) On average, fewer treatments than required with liquid nitrogen
4) Pain relief post treatment
